What is NewsCatcher?

Most news APIs hand you raw articles and leave the cleanup to you. NewsCatcher, a Y Combinator Summer 2022 company founded by Artem Bugara and Maksym Sugonyaka (registered in Delaware, team mostly in Europe), does that cleanup on its side: articles come back summarised, deduplicated, clustered into stories and tagged with entities. Version 3 of the API covers 140,000+ sources in 50+ languages with more than 2 billion articles since 2019 (per company website; independently unverifiable), and a separate Local News endpoint adds a location and a confidence score to each story. Official SDKs exist for Python, Node and Java, and the company reports SOC 2 Type II and a 99.95% uptime SLA. The catch for a solo developer is price discovery: there is a pay-as-you-go trial, but production plans are quoted by sales.

Typical uses: AI & LLM apps, Media monitoring, Risk & compliance, Financial services. What sets it apart: Summaries, story clusters, entities and geotags arrive in the response, so the processing code you would otherwise write is already done.

NewsCatcher pricing

Short answer: the pricing model is custom quote; pay-as-you-go trial. There is no public entry price, so expect to request a quote.

Access model What it means
Free trial Time- or credit-limited trial before a paid plan
Pay-as-you-go Billed per request or credit, with no monthly minimum
Enterprise contract Negotiated licence covering volume, rights and SLA
API prices and quotas change often. Check NewsCatcher's own pricing page before you commit, and confirm that your use is covered by the licence.

NewsCatcher pros and cons

Advantages Things to consider
+Deduplication and story clustering run server-side, so you skip writing your own similarity matching -You cannot see production prices without talking to sales
+Three official SDKs (Python, Node, Java) plus webhooks and S3 delivery -History begins in 2019, so long backfills need another source
+The Local News endpoint returns a place name with a 0–10 confidence score per article -A small company is behind the enterprise SLA
+SOC 2 Type II and an uptime SLA make the security questionnaire shorter when the project goes to production
+It publishes a recall comparison against other APIs, though the vendor ran the test itself
